New easy to make and delicious recipe!

Tahini recipe: This recipe was created by Amsterdam Flavours especially for SUMSUM!
This is to serve up to four people.

Ingredients:

12 lamb meatballs (these can be bought ready or you can make your own favorite recipe) 1-2 tablespoons olive oil 120 gr Greek yogurt 3-4 tablespoons SUMSUM kimchi tahini 1 teaspoon SUMSUM date honey Salt Pepper Pea shoots, for the garnish.

Preparation:
Heat a frying pan on medium fire with 2 tablespoons of olive oil and bake the meatballs until they are golden brown
in color, this should take about 10 minutes. If you prefer the meatballs can also be cooked in the oven.
Now put them in an oven dish with 1 tablespoon of olive oil and bake in a preheated oven at 220 for about 15
minutes. Mix in a bowl the Greek yoghurt with the tahini. Add tahini to your liking. Spice it up with 1 teaspoon of date
honey, salt and pepper. Take the tahini-yogurt sauce and spread on a plate using a spoon. Place the meatballs on top and finish with the pea shoots.

Enjoy!

Healthy food for kids: During these past few weeks since the new school year began we’ve heard intense debates in the media, schools and social media regarding healthy food choices for children while at school and during their activites outside the home.

Parents have shown dissatisfaction with what takes place at schools, adding that better choices can be made when serving lunch for the children, and choosing birthday treats for classmates and staff that are not filled with sugar and additives. One school here in the Netherlands has taken a stand, viewed as a bit extreme perhaps, they annouced they will serve only water this year to students, no juice or other sweet drinks will be allowed.

So what can we the parents do to make snacking & drinks healthier for our children?

It starts with educating children about what is healthy, showing them that healthy and delicious can go together! Teach them the effects to their bodies when eating non healthy foods on a regular basis after all, it’s about a healthy balance!

And..

Dates honey is very healthy and can even be used as sugar substitute. You will be happy to know that dates honey is rich in vitamins B & D, iron, calcium, magnesium, dietary fibers, contains essential minerals to the human body & completely fat free.

We have a created a dates honey energy bar making it the perfect choice for a tasty, healthy quick snack to stir up your breakfast & re-boost your energy levels, for your child’s mid day / afternoon treat or before a sports activity.
SUMSUM’s delicious energy bars come in a variety of flavors from crunchy pistachio, cashew & almonds to sweet raisins & youthful goji berry.

Give your child next to a fruit of their choice a dates honey energy bar a day.

In addition why not make them a sugar free iced tea in a variety of flavours? We have 18 different flavours of tea to choose from!

Here are just a few examples of tea and it’s benefits:

Apple cider: Apples help to carry and increase the amount of oxygen needed by body systems through the water-soluble vitamin B-6 they contain. According to the Office of Dietary Supplements, vitamin B-6 also plays a vital role in the immune system by helping to maintain lymphoid organs that make white blood cells.

Citrus: It’s no surprise how drinking citrus teas could boost the immune system- they are an excellent source of vitamin C and contain powerful antioxidants that boost immunity and protect against a wide range of infections and health conditions.

Ginger lemon: Strengthen your immunity. This is due to the presence of high levels of anti-oxidants in ginger. Lemons are an excellent source of vitamin C which can heal wounds and preserve the strength of bones and teeth. Other harmful effects of diabetes like blood pressure, heart problems and so on can be countered by the anti-oxidants present in the drink. It Is Your One-Stop-Drink to perfect skin & great hair.

Goji berry: Filled with antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. Goji berries have carotenoids, flavonoids, polyphenols, vitamin A, vitamin B, vitamin C, vitamin E, thiamine, riboflavin and niacin. Additionally, the berry contains many minerals including zinc, iron, copper, calcium and phosphorus. The sugars contained in goji berries are long chain molecules that are a primary source of dietary fibre, making them a complex carbohydrate.

Lychee: Supports digestion.

Mango: Considered by many to be the “King of Fruits” due to its delicious taste, bright orange colour and nutritional values. Mango tea has been used by European physicians to help treat diabetes and the blood vessel problems associated with diabetes. Mango tea is high in vitamin A, B and C.

Our tip: Add a tasty dates energy bar as a snack in your child’s lunch box along side a fruit of their choice. Instead of frissy drinks or juices filled with sugar, make a homemade sugar free iced tea!

Make it easy for children to choose the healthy option!
